This was the bitmark Hackathon 2023

The overriding goal of the Hackathon was to create open, innovative learning solutions based on the open content-first standard “bitmark” that make digital learning content more accessible. Developers, teachers and other education enthusiasts participated from all over the world, including Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, India, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Venezuela and Zimbabwe, demonstrating the global reach and impact of bitmark.

The Challenge

Create An Open Language Learning App Based On bitmark In A Day

The hackathon challenges the development of an innovative open language learning app that enables users to learn efficiently and without barriers. The development of the app must be completed within 24 hours. An independent jury will award the three best solutions.

Why join?

The hackathon offers the participants a unique opportunity to contribute their knowledge, collaborate with other disciplines, expand their network, strengthen their skills and develop new innovative ideas.

For companies and organizations, the hackathon offers the possibility to show their creative side to attract and inspire talent, network, and take home new innovative and sustainable solutions for your organization.

Questions to answer

  • How might we develop an open Duolingo app based on bitmark in 24 hours?

  • How might we make open language learning solutions available without any barriers?

  • How might we enable learners and teachers to use open language learning solutions?

  • How might we create open connections to existing solutions?

How does it work?

You will work in interdisciplinary teams at the hackathon on the given challenge. In doing so, you contribute your knowledge (development, UX, languages, etc.), acquire new skills in exchange, and gain various inspirational moments. Your team has 24 hours to complete the challenge. The resulting solution will then be made available again as open source.

Participants can register as individuals or groups. We suggest a team size of 3 -5.

Participation is free of charge. General communication of the hackathon will be in English.

An independent jury will award the three best solutions.
